Part I: PPT Slide Presentation – Case Presentation with Initial Care Plan
Topic : IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome.) Initial Case Presentation & Care Plan: Student topic IBS Irritable Bowel Syndrome.major medical condition, and two major interrelated concepts related to the exemplar disease/medical condition selected. The case study topic of a disease/medical condition will be selected from one of the following body systems: (IBS) gastrointestinal, The exemplar is to display an integration of pathophysiology of the medical condition; the signs and symptoms of the condition, with appropriate health assessment findings and diagnostic testing findings; the two major nursing concepts and related pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment interventions (with a strong emphasis on nursing-based and intraprofessional interventions). The nurse educator student should plan this as PowerPoint slide presentation for teaching this content to undergraduate Senior II nursing students.
Use pathophysiology, pharmacology, medical-surgical and the Giddens texts, as well as other references to develop this exemplar and care plan. Review the 6-6 rule for slide presentations. (See the syllabus.] Use graphics, images and tables to clarify and assist in understanding the content provided. Confirm they are not too “busy” with print too small or too much text, the text and background should sharply contrast for readability.
[This PPT will be part 1 of the slide presentations, with the second PPT presenting a change in the patient’s medical condition, and unfolding case study, and development of clinical judgement knowledge and skills for the nursing student.] Use the 6-6 rule for slide presentations as much as possible (six lines on each slide, six words for each line). Use bullets and phrases. Limit the use of full sentences or paragraphs on a slide presentation.
The components of the initial case presentation with care plan assignment will include (18-24 slides total):
Title Slide- (First slide)
1. Provide the title of your presentation, your name, the course name and number, and the semester, year.
A. Background Presentation of the Patient (2-3 slides)
1. Descriiption of how the patient presents to the medical facility.
2. Age, gender, ethnicity/race, social support, economic status, language spoken, other psychosocial factors.
B. Epidemiology and Pathophysiology (4-5 slides)
1. Descriiption of the pathophysiology of the disease/medical condition, at a nursing student level (not lay person level).
2. Descriiption of population specific prevalence (gender, age, race/ethnicity, national and worldwide prevalence).
3. Descriiption of common signs and symptoms.
C. Physical Assessment and Diagnostic Testing (3-4 slides)
1. Descriiption of focused physical assessment techniques and common findings associated with this disease process/medical condition, including lab and diagnostic testing results. For lab testing, provide the normal levels for abnormal test results. A table with the name of the test, the patient result, and the normal result range is helpful, if there are a lot of abnormal test results.
D. Medical Diagnosis and Nursing Concepts (2-3 slides)
1. What is the sunk, or stranded, cost?
2. Discussion of how the nursing concepts assist in directing the nursing care plan.
E. Nursing Care Plan with Interprofessional Collaboration (3-4 slides)
Descriiption of at least three common non-pharmacologic nursing and interprofessional health care treatment modalities associated with the medical condition. Include patient teaching, psychosocial and cultural implications, and collaboration with other health care professionals.
Descriiption of 2-3 common pharmacologic treatment modalities associated with the medical condition (use evidence-based guidelines, when applicable). Include patient teaching.
Include integration of the nursing concepts/ diagnoses into the care plan.
F. Discussion and Conclusions (2-3 slides)
1. Provide the rationale for the interprofessional interventions associated with the disease/medical condition in order to provide integrated, effective, culturally-competent, safe, evidence-based management of the disease/medical condition. Describe how psychosocial and cultural considerations were integrated into the care plan. Explain how the nursing concepts/diagnoses are integrated into the care plan.
Reference Page (Last slide)
Provide a reference page for this assignment, using APA formatting for the full reference citation. Cite references on each slide where the reference was used (Author, year). References cannot be on the reference page, if they are not cited within the slides. Review how to cite graphics or images on a slide presentation in chapter 7 of the APA guide. Review examples 7.3 and 7.8 for formatting. If a graphic or image is full referenced on the slide; they do not need to be referenced on the full reference citation page.
A minimum of 5 health professional-level references are required; the Giddens textbook and Shadow Health resources may be used as references. Non-peer reviewed references are not acceptable. Directly quoted material is strongly discouraged, and directly quoted material in excess of 10 words will result in a reduction in grade.
Cite references on each slide on which they are used (Author, year). Provide the full reference citation on the Reference slide(s), using proper APA formatting. A minimum of 5 references are required; textbooks are acceptable references.
Paraphrase material from sources, don’t use direct quotations. Use referenced material to guide your presentation, but your own developed thoughts on the topic need to be evident.(The exception will be the title of each of the NLN nurse competencies and the major concepts of Anderson’s work. Excessive direct quotations from reference sources (more than 10 words) will result in a reduction in grade. Plagiarism will result in a “0” for the assignment.
This Assignment supports Module 5 Objectives: 1. Develop a Medical-Surgical II (senior level) nursing class PPT slide presentation based on the health/medical condition you selected, incorporating concepts from the Giddens textbook and content obtained through textbooks, videos, articles, and other resources to formulate a patient case presentation with nursing concepts/diagnoses and a nursing care plan; and 2. Integrate health recipient and professional nursing concepts into the presentation, which may include culture, spirituality, adherence, self-management, patient education, and health promotion
