Create an Eco Art: World Beach Project (60 points) The World Beach Project, initiated by artist Sue Lawty, was a global art project open to anybody, anywhere, of any age. Building on the experience many of us have of making patterns on beaches and shorelines, this project combines the simplicity of making patterns with stones with the complexities of shape, size, color, tone, composition, similarity and difference. To complete this assignment, you need to find a local beach (ocean, river, lake, creek, etc.), create an eco-artwork on the beach using stone only, take few before and after photos, and type your report (250± words). Please include the following information: (1) Date and Time, (2) Location, (3) Creative Process/Inspiration, (4) few before and after pictures of your artwork, and (5) a short reflection about the experience. It is optional; however, you are encouraged to take a short video of your artwork onsite. To clarify, (1) DO NOT shape or sculpt sand, soil or shingle; (2) DO NOT draw in the sand, and (3) DO NOT add driftwood, shells, seaweed, or any flotsam and jetsam that is not a stone. The essence of the project is to create the patterns reflect the geology of the place more than man’s impact on it. How does it fit and relate to the culture and time when it was created?

Chapter 16 – 17: Pierre Augustus Renoir’s “La Moulin de la Galette” with Henri De Toulouse Lautrec “At the Moulin Rouge”
While comparing and contrasting these are things to consider to help create a critical analysis:
Subject, Composition, Content (What is the artist trying to communicate?)
How does it fit and relate to the culture and time when it was created?
Materials, Methods, Processes used in production.
What do you appreciate? What don’t you appreciate?
Elements of art; how the artist uses Space, Line, Shape, Form, Value, Color, Texture

Discuss what was the cultural, social, religious, or political influences that impacted the artwork’s similarities or differences.

Paper Part 2: Introduction
Your paper prompt is:
Compare and Contrast 2 works of art from 2 different time periods that we have covered in this class. Discuss what was the cultural, social, religious, or political influences that impacted the artwork’s similarities or differences.
The paper is broken down into three parts: research topic & bibliography, introduction, final paper. Everything should be done in MLA format (double spaced, times new romans 12pt., etc.) The paper should contain a minimum 3 to 5 sources and be a minimum of 3 pages and a maximum of 5 pages. All sources must be scholarly, Wikipedia, blogs, and websites ending in .com are not acceptable for this research paper. You may use Google Scholar or CVCC library data base.
This week you will be focusing on the writing the introduction to your paper. You should have completed last weeks Topic and Bibliography assignment and will use it to guide your introduction this week. I will be looking for you to properly introduce your topic in a way that grabs your readers attention and that you have a clear and concise thesis statement.
Set up your document in MLA formatting as if you were going to use it for your paper. After your name, professor name, course, and due date, center the title of your paper, and below write your introduction. Be sure not to plagiarize, there should be no copy and pasting from any source your introduction should be in your own words and if you do use a paraphrase of a quote that it has an intentional purpose and is cited properly in MLA format. If you use a source be sure to include a works cited page.
*Below is a walk through of how to set up a paper in MLA formatting. You may also click on the link to see further information on MLA formatting.

I have the Topic, Bibliography and Works Cited from last week in the file so we do not need any new cite.
This week is only the introduction.
The template for the Introduction is in the files too.

Give an example or two to support what you mean.

Throughout history, people have questioned the importance of the arts and humanities, what the purpose of art is, and if its even worth preserving, let alone studying.
For this writing assignment, I would like you to write two strong, college-level paragraphs of 10-12 sentences where you discuss what what you think and feel the purpose of art really is. Is it for self-expression? Revealing values about our culture or society? Give an example or two to support what you mean.
Remember, there are no wrong answers here; only the potential for unsupported ideas. Take your time and think about this and weigh what you think about what you have read and watched in this class so far.
Take care not to stray from the question that I’ve asked you here – there are many “rabbit holes” that you could explore, but we want to stay focused on this concept for now. 🙂
Once you have proofread for clarity and typos, please submit your response in the text box below.

What does that tell you about the work?

Take a look at the image of the painting https://artsandculture.google.com/asset/memento-5-kerry-james-marshall/ZgGvKUm7eu861Q
Provide a short answer (150 to 300 words) to each of the questions about the work posed below. (A total of 900 to 1800 words)
The Four Roles of the Artist
1.Artists help us to see the world in new or innovative ways.
2.Artists make a visual record of the people, places, and events of their time.
3.Artists make functional objects and structures (buildings) more pleasurable and, thereby, elevate them or imbue hem with meaning.
4.Artists give form to the immaterial—hidden or universal truths, spiritual forces, personal feelings
1.Which of the 4 roles of the artist mentioned in chapter 1 do you think this artist fits into the best? Why?
2.What has the most emphasis in the work, or what is its focal point? What does that tell you about the work?
3.What associations does this work bring up for you? Tell us what element, principle of design or piece of subject matter helps make each association?
4.How does the way the medium is handled (roughness or smoothness of paint, stone, etc.) affect your interpretation? Can you imagine it being handled another way?
5. How does the artist’s identity affect how you interpret the work?
6. What historical or environmental relationships affect how you interpret the work?

After we go over this in class, you are expected to use this method by applying it to all our assigned readings (see the class schedule below).

Early in the semester, we will go over a note-taking technique (The Cornell
Note-taking System). After we go over this in class, you are expected to use this method by
applying it to all our assigned readings (see the class schedule below). You will turn these into
your peer mentors, who will offer you feedback as you go. At the end of the semester, you will
turn these into me, so I suggest that you get a notebook to do so. In fact, you can combine your
notes with your vocabulary journals, just put each in a separate section.
the notes have to be in the format thAT I sent you the example
