How do the tone and style of writing in your field differ from the academic writing most of us are used to?

Learning Goal: I’m working on a writing question and need a sample draft to help me learn.
Begin this discussion by conducting some informal research on writing in your field. What industry do you hope to be a part of after graduation (finance, management, Human Resources, marketing, etc.)? What kinds of writing typically happens in this field? Try to be more specific about the types of documents you may need to write outside of email and memos.
Next, write a memo describing your findings–you’ll need to attach this as a PDF to your posting. Please address the following in your memo:
What did you find in your research? What kinds of workplace writing will you be doing in your field? Cite at least two sources using hyperlinks (not URLs).
How prepared do you feel to write within your industry? What might be some areas you’ll need to improve on before beginning your career?
How do the tone and style of writing in your field differ from the academic writing most of us are used to?
Be sure to use proper memo format, appropriate tone and style for memos, short and direct paragraphs (no longer than 4-6 lines of text), single-spaced block paragraphs, and hyperlinks to cite your sources. Attach your memo as a PDF for this discussion. Your memo should be at least 300 words long.
Responses to Classmates
In your responses to classmates, comment on each other’s research. Do your classmates’ findings seem accurate? Is there anything they may have missed? What are some similarities and differences between the kind of writing you might be doing in your industries? Your responses must be at least 100 words long each.
You can also use the RISE model (Links to an external site.) when you respond:
Reflect:What do you agree/disagree with in your peer’s post?
Inquire:Ask an insightful question about your peer’s post.
Suggest:Make a kind suggestion to your peer or make an insightful comment that will help them better understand rhetoric.
Elevate:Offer an additional resource your peer might find helpful, or make connections between your post and your peer’s post. Elevate the conversation by providing information that will be helpful in the future.

Guidelines for Writing a Critical Analysis of a Primary Document
This assignment calls for you to closely examine a single text (in this case, a primary document) written by a single author in an attempt to understand why the author wrote the particular text, in a particular way, to a particular audience, and for what purpose. Thus, the student seeks to determine: what the author described and/or argued; how the author presented his/her information, interpretation, or argument; why the author chose that method of presentation and persuasion (in other words, what did the author view as the evidence and arguments that would most likely persuade his/her audience, what assumptions did the author assume his/her audience shared, and what assumptions did the author challenge); and what the author ultimately hoped to achieve by writing the text.
A student engaged in critical analysis probes for underlying assumptions, perceptions, values, and biases—elements that are present in all texts. Once the author’s perspective, method, and purpose have been identified, you should explain how those elements shape the “evidence” (the author’s descriptions, ideas, concerns, arguments) that the text presented. Some texts present a “narrative” rather than a clearly defined argument. Yet even those texts are influenced by particular values and concerns, and most offer some message, whether implicit or explicit, and it is your job to identify them.
In the process critically analyzing a document, the student is not evaluating or judging the accuracy, validity, logic, or persuasiveness of an author’s evidence, ideas, or interpretation. Since the student is not the author’s intended audience–the author was writing to an audience of his/her contemporaries–the analysis does not focus on whether the author has convinced the student of the argument and/or ideas presented, nor should the student search for present-day relevance in the text. This is not a research paper. However, use the information that the document contains as “evidence” to explore broader historical issues or contexts presented in your textbook.
After you have carefully read and analyzed the text, you should respond to each of the prompts in the rubric below: content, context, themes, analysis.
You are encouraged to cite the document by quoting only very small portions. The rule when quoting the source is, “quote only the language you plan to analyze.” Excessively long quotations of source material without analysis (also known as “filler”) will significantly detract from your grade.
Content:
–Captures source author’s main ideas and concerns.
— Explains what author hoped to achieve.
–Incorporates evidence to support statements by selecting relevant quotations from primary source.
Context:
–Captures the historical situation in which the primary source was produced.
–Attempts to address what the source is, who produced it, when, where, why it was produced.
Themes:
–Identifies key themes, ideas, or historical circumstances and situations from the textbook that relate to the primary document.
Analysis:
–Offers in-depth analysis, explanation, and interpretation of source.
–Distinguishes between fact and interpretation.
–Explores reliability of creator.
–Analyzes underlying assumptions, values, biases present in text

Do you use PayPal? What are your overall thoughts on PayPal as well as their role in how we pay for items in the future?

Learning Goal: I’m working on a writing question and need a sample draft to help me learn.
You will compose an analysis that will be the equivalent of five (5) double-spaced pages in a Word document.
12 font, Calibri, Times New Roman, or Arial, double-spaced, 5 pages, and a minimum of two sources outside the book.
The grading of each write-up will be based on the quality of your responses to the questions. I grade on grammar and spelling. Please state and number each question or you will lose 2 points per question.
Case Analysis 2: “PayPal”
Research PayPal and answer the following questions.
1. Give an overview and history of PayPal.
2. Explain in detail how PayPal works.
3. Conduct a SWOT analysis on PayPal.
4. Which company or companies pose the most threat(s) to PayPal and why.
5. Do you use PayPal? What are your overall thoughts on PayPal as well as their role in how we pay for items in the future?
You will lose a minimum of 10 points if you do not have a full five (5) written pages. Charts, images, reference page for outside sources do not count as pages towards the five (5) page minimum. More points may be deducted depending on how many pages are completed. For example, if you only complete one written page you will lose more than 10 points.
Please state the question and question number and provide an answer to each question.
I am not looking for the one perfect solution (it doesn’t exist), instead, I look for the overall quality of your answers. I pay special attention to the quality of your arguments and positions.

How will you identify an employee’s strengths and skills to leverage their performance?

Learning Goal: I’m working on a writing report and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.
Throughout this course, you have analyzed your current work environment to identify the acquiring, developing, and training practices. Employees are the biggest asset and contribute to the culture and overall performance of the organization. This project requires you to determine how to leverage the human capital within your organization. Use the research you have complied throughout this course to determine how to appropriately develop and motivate your employees.
Develop a written proposal (1,000-1,250 words), discussing performance indicators, rewards and incentives, and a plan for motivating employees. Your proposal must include the following:
Describe tasks and performance indicators that contribute to the overall employee performance on the job.
How will you identify an employee’s strengths and skills to leverage their performance?
Develop strategies to improve employee performance. How will you provide employees with rewards and incentives for performance improvement?
How will you integrate rewards and incentives to remain competitive in the marketplace and recruit and retain the employees?
Describe a vision for the overall culture you aspire to develop in your organization, relative to the employees being the biggest asset.
Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. A link to the LopesWrite technical support articles is located in Class Resources if you need assistance.

Describe through a memorandum to your supervisor how the project will handle the change in scope and risk.

Learning Goal: I’m working on a writing question and need guidance to help me learn.
You are the Program Manager for a consulting company hired to improve a system for flying patients and/or transplant organs to appropriate hospital destinations. Patients may be those located in remote areas where major hospitals are not nearby, or they maybe emergency patients who just need to get to a different hospital with specialized equipment. As for transplant organs, when a match is made by UNOS, there is usually a very limited time window for getting the organ to the hospital where the patient is waiting.
As you may guess, this is important work which is usually time critical. LifeWings Air was established usingfederal grant funds to help provide medical air transport and help lower medical costs when possible through the use of VOLUNTEER pilots. Certified pilots donate their time and aircraft to do this work. Approved hospitals and clinics make requests for transport, and area pilots are contacted so they can accept the flights. So far, this has all been done via phone calls between UNOS, hospitals, LifeWings staff and the pilots. When there is no available volunteer, the requestor must instead contact an expensive commercial air service. Given the tight time frames for certain situations, the “phone chain” does not have much time to work before the
commercial service backup has to be called in.
As the Program manager, you have set up two related projects to try and automate and improve the LifeWings systems. One project is to develop the “pilot side” of the system to recruit and assign pilots and planes when there is a transport need. The second project requires integration with a number of established, complex systems used by hospitals and UNOS to accept requests for transportation. The interfaces between them are subject to a number of oversight boards and governmental agencies. You want to use traditional methods on this part of the project because it will allow you to do the kind of progress reporting that the oversight agencies require. Since this is being done with grant funds, and large organizational systems are involved, formal scope
and risk management is expected.
The project is well into coding and is a bit behind schedule. Your best DBA has been complaining and doesn’t seem happy on the job. Your primary hospital partner has diverted some of its IT staff to some new priorities related to Covid. There has been some confusion and delays related to some of your server equipment, but the vendor says it will get everything straightened out in time as long as the chips can be unloaded at the ports soon.
Suddenly there is a new requirement. The CDC now requires medical providers to collect pilot vaccinationstatus and health status, along with contact trace data after each flight, just in case. So now the medical side has a new interface to the CDC, and a need to get additional data from the pilot side.
Instruction: Describe through a memorandum to your supervisor how the project will handle the change in scope and risk.
1) Prepare a risk register for the things you need to watch or prepare for. Include the type of strategy
(avoid, mitigate, etc.), the actions to take and their triggers.
2) Explain what you believe will be an effective change request process that will involve all major
stakeholders and adhere to various grant reporting requirements (How you will handle the specific scopechanges you see in this case) Include any documentation needed to initiate a potential scope change.
Depth of Thought will be based on how clearly you convey your understanding of how to handle scope
changes and risk events and how well you APPLY these concepts to the details of the Lifewings Air case
Tools and techniques will be based on using terms, models, forms and/or tools for managing scope and risk.
